Rev. Tom Tipton grew up in Kentucky, moving to Virginia 1988. He has multiple degrees from Eastern Kentucky University, including a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and Technology. He is a former US Army Captain leaving the military after Desert Storm to work for several major corporations in product development, acquisitions, and consulting services. In 2002, he answered his call to ministry leaving the corporate world to attend Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. where he obtained his Master of Divinity Degree.
Before coming to Christ UMC, Tom served in several ministerial roles, in addition to being the driving force in the creation of Proclaiming Grace Outreach, a 501.3c located in New Kent County, Virginia. He continues to serve as a Director Emeritus, advising this growing non-profit as it serves those in need in upper James City and lower New Kent Counties.
In 2012, Tom was called as the pastor of Christ United Methodist Church. Responding to the needs of a changing community and world that surrounded this 60 year-old community, Tom has led our church family through the challenges of change and is guiding us in a new direction. Under his leadership, many ministries have been created and expanded to meet the needs of our children, young adults, and older members.
Tom is married to Kim and together they have four daughters. Kim is also active in ministry, leading an adult Bible study (The Wired Word), women’s ministries (United Methodist Women, retreats, Bible studies) and assisting in our church festivals and events.
